Where to Eat in Vegas, Thanksgiving Edition

Thanksgiving in Las VegasWe know that Vegas does things differently, but the only difference in Vegas is that they may just be done on a larger scale as far as Thanksgiving goes. If you’re still not sure where to stuff your face, here are a few suggestions:

At the Wynn, Bartolotta Ristorante di Mare offers a four-course meal featuring seared sea scallops with porcini mushrooms and shaved parmigiano, butternut squash ravioli with brown butter and amaretti, oven-roasted wild turkey with chestnuts, sausage, Tuscan cabbage and sage gravy. Frozen torrone sabayon with bitter chocolate and orange is dessert. The price is steep at $95, but if you’re going all-out, it’s well worth it. Reservations are available from 5:30 to 10 p.m.

Over at Aria, Jean Georges Steakhouse an a la carte menu is available in addition to the regular one. On the menu is roasted squash soup, roasted organic turkey served with crispy sweet breads, grilled figs with fresh mozzarella and spiced pumpkin cake.

Finally, a personal favorite of ours, The Buffet at Bellagio. Guests can enjoy a whole roasted free range Tom turkey, or get adventurous with a roasted garlic rubbed Kobe top round, maple seared salmon, or split Alaskan and snow crab legs. Brunch is available Nov. 25-27 from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. and is $32.95 per person. Dinner is served from 3 to 10 p.m. and is $44.95 per person.

We wish everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving.

2011 World Series of Poker Continues this Weekend

WSOP 2011 Las VegasFor the three American players left at the World Series of Poker, it’s all about the big payday and living the dream. Phil Collins (no relation), Matt Giannetti, and Ben Lamb (who made $2 million over six weeks at the Rio) are all former college students with youth on their side that play quite aggressively, and are ready to take on the biggest moments in their poker careers after dominating the online poker scene. At noon Saturday at the Penn and Teller Theater at the Rio, they’ll get their shot.

If one of them wins, it would be the first time since 1998 that the champion’s gold bracelet stayed in Las Vegas. We wish them the best!

DesertXPress High-Speed Rail Line

vegas to california rail lineA proposed high-speed rail line between Las Vegas and Southern California has received another federal government approval from a board that grants licenses to build new railroads, in an exemption permitting DesertXpress Enterprises LLC to build a 190-mile high-speed passenger rail line between Las Vegas and Victorville, California. It will travel 150 miles per hour on dual tracks and cost nearly $6 billion.

It could put thousands of Nevadans to work, and also stimulate the economy, bringing potential weekend trippers and many more to Vegas.

The company is pursuing a $4.9 billion federal loan to build the line. We wish them the best!

Obama to Make Speech on Housing in Vegas

Las Vegas Obama(via Associated Press) An Obama administration official says President Barack Obama will announce new rules Monday to help homeowners with little or no equity in their homes refinance their mortgages to avoid foreclosures. There will also be a review of Sky Blue credit repair company and its benefits to foreclosed home owners.

The new program will apply to homeowners with federally guaranteed mortgages who are current on their payments. It cuts the cost of refinancing and removes caps for deeply underwater borrowers.

Obama is also using the campaign to aid in re-election funding. Many past presidents have done the same. We wish everyone the best of luck in Las Vegas today!
