Atlanta Falcons defensive end Ray Edwards paid up this weekend on one of the coolest fan contests imaginable — and treated one lucky winner to a baller trip to Las Vegas … including awesome seats to the Floyd Mayweather fight Saturday night.

It was all part of Edwards’ “Dare to Be Different” contest, designed to give away a trip to Edwards’ biggest fan … who really needs a vacation.

A rep for Edwards tells TMZ he shelled out for two first class tickets for winner Chantel Snow and a friend ($1,250). He also paid for hotel accommodations at MGM Grand ($1,100), meals on Friday and Saturday ($3,000), a private limo and driver for their whole stay ($2,000), a private cabana at the Hard Rock pool ($900), tickets to the fight ($1,500/ea), VIP booth at the club Friday ($2,500).

A runner-up drove up to Vegas on his own dime, but all he got to do was meet Ray and watch him train.

Second place really is first loser.

Bus Helps Cure Hangovers in Vegas

Vegas Hangover busAnybody who has been to Vegas knows the feeling of waking up in the morning with a hangover. One doctor has taken advantage of this “next morning” tradition of feeling sick to turn a profit.  Dr. Jason Burke, a board-certified anesthesiologist has started a medical practice on wheels called “Hangover Heaven”.

Hangover Heaven is a bus service that will arrive at the caller’s hotel and offer two services to aid you in overcoming your hangover. A basic package for $90 includes an IV of saline solution, B vitamins and vitamin C. A premium package, $150, includes two bags of saline solution. For an extra fee, Burke will even bring treatment to a tourist’s hotel room. While this medical practice is just starting there are still many concerns.

Some concerns include not taking a full medical history or maybe having an allergic reaction to the medicine that Burke offers. Dr Burke addressing these concerns says, “I’m not a cowboy. I’m not going to grab someone off the street…without knowing their medical history. If they do have something that might be complicated, I’ll refer them to an emergency room or tailor their treatment to avoid anything that might cause problems.” Burke even has the Hangover Heaven bus equipped with a hospital-style “crash cart” in case of a severe medical emergency. While the practice is still relatively new the Hangover Heaven bus is estimated to be extremely successful.

New Las Vegas Hotel: The D

The D Hotel VegasThe D Hotel, formerly Fitzgeralds, will open in Fall 2012. The name itself is a bet on a downtown resurgence (this is what the D stands for). This is one of the few openings in the downtown area in a long time, but efforts are being made to renovate the area and bring life back to a once-thriving section of Las Vegas. GSA Spending Spree Costs us $823,000

GSA Vegas ScandalFrom MSN.com:

Martha Johnson, who resigned this month as head of the General Services Administration, apologized Monday for a Las Vegas conference in 2010 that cost $823,000 and led to the ouster of the agency’s top leaders. Johnson quit and two top officials were put on leave after the spree, which included parties in private rooms paid for with taxpayer funds.

We’ll leave it to you to decide our thoughts on this one.

Vegas Casinos Luxor and Excalibur Connected by Zipline? It’s Happening!

vegas casino ziplineMGM Resorts International is planning to string up zip lines between the Luxor and Excalibur.

There’s no tentative timeline for the new attraction, which will involve three lines including one connected to the apex of the Luxor’s pyramid. MGM representatives say it could be a unique alternative to simply walking between the casinos, and serve as a tamer thrill ride than bungee jumping.

The idea follows the successful installation of a zip line attraction at The Fremont Street Experience on the north end of the strip, and more news will be posted here as it becomes available. Thanks to Gizmodo.com for the information.

TMZ EXCLUSIVE: Skateboarder Ryan Sheckler Victim of Vegas Jewelry Heist

ryan-sheckler-tmz-exThanks to TMZ.com for the story.

Ryan Sheckler — a world-class skateboarder who has also ventured into reality TV — had nearly $100k worth of jewelry stolen from his Las Vegas hotel room while he was snoozing, and the woman he planned on spending the night with has been arrested.

According to the police report, obtained by TMZ, on February 27, Ryan was staying at the Palms Hotel and at 3:45 AM he took Stacy Salazar back to his room — a woman he says he’s known for 4 years.

Ryan claims he fell asleep but was awakened by the sound of his door closing.  He then noticed Stacy was no longer in his room.  A few hours later he noticed his jewelry was missing — a Rolex watch valued at $12,500, a gold/diamond bracelet worth $14,975, a diamond and white gold ring ($63,275) and a diamond necklace of unknown value.

Ryan called the cops, who took a report.

The security camera shows Ryan and Stacy taking the elevator up to the room, and cops observed the Rolex on Ryan’s wrist.

As for Stacy, the security camera shows her leaving Ryan’s room at 5:05 AM.  According to the police report, “As she is walking she is fumbling with her purse that she carries over her shoulder.”  She got to the elevator, wedged the door open at the last minute, got out, went to Ryan’s room where they spoke at the door for one minute, and then she left.

Cops spoke with Stacy who claimed a childhood friend of Ryan’s was setting her up and that he was the real culprit.  Apparently cops didn’t believe her, because she was arrested and booked for grand larceny.

julio cesar chavez jr. DUI(Photo and story courtesy TMZ.com) Boxing champ Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. — son of the legendary Julio Cesar Chavez — will have to fight to stay out of jail … ’cause he was just charged with DUI stemming from an arrest earlier this year.

TMZ has learned … the L.A. City Attorney has decided to hit Chavez with 3 misdemeanor charges … 2 for drunk driving and 1 for driving without a valid license.

If convicted on all counts, JCC could face up to a year in county jail and a $1,000 fine.

He’s due back in court to face the judge later this month.

Joe Jackson — 83-Year-Old Hits Vegas Club…at 2 PM

joe jackson partying(Story and photo courtesy TMZ.com) 83-year-old Joe Jackson threw on his best track jacket … and goldest chain … and hit the club scene in Vegas this weekend … at 2 IN THE AFTERNOON.

Michael Jackson’s father was chillin’ at Lavo Champagne Brunch at the Palazzo Hotel … a full-on nightclub-style party scene … that serves almond crusted French toast.

Sources at the club tell TMZ … JJ arrived with a male friend … and wasn’t boozing, only drinking water.

But he WAS pimpin’ it … hangin’ out at a table with a group of hot chicks. At one point, he handed his camera to someone and said, “I want a picture with the girls.”

After the pic, the girls described JJ as a “sweet old man.”

What happens in Vegas … is weird sometimes.

MGM Grand Loses the Lions; Remodel Planned

mgm lionsMGM’s lion habitat closed its doors on January 31, with the lions going to an 8.5 acre ranch called The Cat House. MGM will not say what is replacing the area the lions were in, but did begin a $160 million remodel of the MGM Grand hotel in October. It’s anyone’s guess as to what will take over the space the kings of the jungle once inhabited, but we wish them luck.
