Las Vegas Trip Report for Nov 3 - 5 2006

As most of you know, the people who read and contribute, I went to Vegas Nov 3 – 5th 2006 and stayed at the Hilton Grand Vacations Condominiums (time share).  Before you go uh-oh, it wasn’t as bad as you think.

I arrived on Friday and secured a room on the 26th floor.  I asked for a strip view, which they do not have.  I asked anyway, even for an obstructed view and when I got to the room, the first thing I did was look out the window.  I was on the mountain side (even numbered rooms) looking at the mountains and I could see the Rio, Trump Tower, Circus Circus, The Stardust, corners and other edges of other hotels.

The room was nice it had a fully stocked kitchen, washer and dryer, stove, microwave, dishwasher, full size fridge, living room, bathroom with a glass shower, a bedroom with a Jacuzzi next to the bed.  The Jacuzzi really was next to the bed within 3 foot with a half height partition.

I am not usually one to go after a free stay with a sales presentation; In fact this was the first.  The two hour sales meeting went quickly they had a continental breakfast, a movie and there was NO PRESSURE, but the answer was still no.  The sales person was great and very accommodating and explained everything thoroughly.

The time share program would be good for people who didn’t price shop and wanted to just make one phone call to book the reservation.  There was no specific time or property, you work off points and when those points were gone you wait until next year, buy more points or save the points you have left over.  You could stay at any Hilton Property or RCI property.

The Problem with this was they figure out how much you travel and add all those numbers up and figure out what the total price of vacations would be for you over 30years.  Which was the price of a BMW M6 and they offer a 7 year loan @ 14.5%, or you could finance it yourself.  I could take that money and put it to better use.  Don’t forget the yearly maintenance fee.

The Hilton Property was nice but BORING, there wasn’t action, no Vegas Vibe, and it reminded me just a nice hotel with a pool.

The Hilton Property is located about a block from Circus Circus next to the new SKY Tower, so I rode the Deuce, which is common.  (Funny name for a Bus! “I am going to take a Deuce to Caesars”).  The Hilton does not offer any transportation, not even to their Hilton Casino.

Overall for Vegas, I would not stay at the Hilton Grand Vacations, unless it was less expensive.  I like the ability of getting on an elevator and exiting onto the casino floor.  It wouldn’t be Vegas without the vibe!
